Day 8 Halloween

Aside from Ki’s 18th I was looking forward to Halloween in New Orleans. First we made it to a zipwire experience called Zipnola just outside New Orleans. Its basically a series of zipwire over alligator infested marshes. Incredible staff and experience

Ki took it in his stride, I shook like a leaf (issue with heights) but fumbled through.

I need to purchase the photos (remember Penny Pincher)

So after the ordeal… Sorry, experience…. We headed to our hotel called St Charles Inn in New Orleans. This city was blighted by hurrican Katrina a few years ago. It destroyed whole neighbour hoods (mostly poorer ones) and as you travel through you can tell there’s a wealthy sector and an impoverished one. We got to the hotel and chatted with the lady owner. She changed our room to a more deluxe one. Images of room below (after we tidied in the morning) in fact I’ll include a pic of the room in full use! Unfiltered.

Then we headed out to the French sector of the city. There’s a tram system that runs through various routes in New Orleans and one of the stops sat directly opposite the hotel. $3 and we had our all day pass and we sat for 30mins as we passed iconic houses, streets and businesses.

We jumped off at Canal Street, the Oxford Street of New Orleans and headed straight for Bourbon Street. This is the hustle bussle Street, the street it all goes down in (mostly by tourists) and we were greeted by all manner of people in costume, in shorts and sandles and others in a style all their own. The smell of cannabis was thick in the air but the vibe…. It was incredible. We found a nice over priced restaurant serving alligator bites and chowed down while enjoying the view. I booked a paranormal investigation experience for 7pm so we headed back to the hotel like locals and chilled for a few hours. Heading back to the Franch Quarter at night really elevated the energy. It was crazy. On the way to the meeting point my son had his palm read by a fortune teller. She was to my skeptical surprise fairly accurate giving advice for today and mystical predictions for the future! Then we headed to the meeting point about to hunt so ghosts. Pics below are some snaps before we got there.

We met with the organisers of the New Orleans Paranormal Society and were promptly given stickers to put on. We were then briefed on the various tools of the trade to hunt ghosts and were off detecting the roaming entities in haunted buildings. Then it was to the bar for a quick drink, not for Ki who got kicked out Hahaha. Then it was a spirit box session in the back of a witches shop were the group asked question that would be answered in a box that threw out static. Then it was all over. I’m breezing over a lot, I will add more details when home but we made it back to the hotel, ordered Chinese that was massive in portion size and slept like babies. So that day marked our half way time in America. Photos below are from the ghost hunt. Even a video of Ki catching a spirit on a device that captures human shapes using lazers.
